BPK-Probe™
Meet Our Shaft Voltage Detection Device
Helwig Carbon’s Patented Shaft Voltage Detection Device otherwise known as the BPK-Probe™ is an instrument designed to measure common mode voltage on a motor shaft and determine the risk of discharge through the motor bearings. It also has the capability to switch in Helwig’s Bearing Protection solution. This feature allows the user to measure the performance of our grounding device and the risk of further damage to the motor bearings once installed.
The BPK-Probe™ comes as part of a complete kit including everything you need to test motor shafts or other devices where damaging discharges may be present. A tablet oscilloscope is included for more detailed analysis of shaft voltages, but is not required to conduct testing.

What is the BPK-Probe™?
How Do You Use the BPK-Probe™?
With the BPK-Probe™ grounded, typically to the motor frame, the Probe tip is placed against the rotating motor shaft and the test is performed. The BPK-Probe displays easy pass/fail results along with the measured voltage level in seconds. In addition, the BPK-Probe also has an embedded grounding device to show the effectiveness of Helwig’s Bearing Protection Kit™ (BPK).
What Motors & Devices Should Be Tested?
How Do I Know the Test Results Are Correct?
The Probe is factory tested and calibrated to be accurate. In addition, the Probe includes a BNC output. This output can be connected directly to the tablet oscilloscope or other 3rd party device to verify the test results.
Will Test Data Be Saved?
Yes. Test results are recorded on a micro-SD card and can also be recorded on the included tablet oscilloscope or other third-party devices. With the BPK-Probe DataLink App, test results can also be stored and viewed online.
Can I use My Multimeter or Digital Voltmeter (DVM) to Measure Shaft Voltage?
No. Multimeters and Digital Voltmeters (DVMs) cannot be used to measure bearing discharge potential. The method and sample rate used by these devices prevents them from properly measuring discharge potential.
BPK-Probe™ Data Link App
The world’s only shaft voltage testing mobile app, the BPK-Probe™ DataLink, was designed to pair with the BPK-Probe™ via Bluetooth® and effortlessly record shaft voltage results from VFD-driven motors to determine the risk to the motor bearings. The mobile app stores facility, motor, customer, and test data for record maintenance. Recorded data is easily exported into a palatable PDF report for distribution or internal reference.
